Clutha Mata-Au Sportsfish and Habitat Trust
The Trust was formed in 2024 following an agreement between Contact Energy and Otago Fish and Game Council.
The formation of the Trust followed discussions between Otago Fish and Game Council (Otago F&G) and Contact Energy (Contact) about the best approach to implement some of Contact’s consent conditions in Otago Regional Council Resource Consent Condition 17 which deals with sports fish management in the lower Clutha River below Roxburgh Dam. Otago F&G wanted more progress than had been achieved in recent years.
The result of these discussions was the formation of the Trust which has largely assumed responsibility for implementing Consent Condition 17 on behalf of Contact. The purposes of the Trust mirrors Consent Condition 17.
In addition to the formation of the Trust, Contact has
entered into a funding agreement with the Trust that provides it with a budget to undertake the work programmes necessary to fulfil its purposes.
