Sports Fish Management Programme
Definition:
(i) The establishment and implementation of a maintenance and enhancement programme for existing and potential spawning sites in the mainstem and tributaries of the Clutha/Mata-Au river, including (but not limited to) facilitating an annual deposit of at least 50 cubic metres of gravel into the Clutha/Mata-Au river and spreading and grooming of the gravel by machine specifically for fish habitat purposes
(ii) The evaluation and implementation of riparian fencing projects as appropriate for suitable spawning in some tributaries of the Clutha/Mata-Au river that might otherwise be affected by livestock access;
(iii) The investigation and implementation of options to seed under-utilised Clutha/Mata-Au river tributary gravels with salmon eggs;
(iv) Monitoring and reporting on the salmon population, including upstream and downstream migration and Clutha / Mata-Au river sports fisheries habitat values; and
(v) Investigating and implementing the development of artificial spawning channels below the Roxburgh Dam and/or a programme of regular hatching stocking.
