Trust Purpose

The Trust is created for the following purposes:

(a) To establish, implement and maintain the Sports Fish Management Programme in the Clutha/Mata-Au river for, (i) the protection and preservation of the river environment and its ecosystems; and (ii) the benefit of the people of New Zealand, in recognition, and to alleviate the negative impacts, of the Hawea Dam, Clyde Dam and Roxburgh Dam operations on downstream passage of Sports Fish and Sports Fish habitat quality

(b) To enhance the sports fisheries values and habitats in the waters of the Clutha/Mata-Au river

(c) To investigate and, when considered appropriate, implement methods to establish a self-sustaining population of salmon (with a spawning run of at least 5000 salmon) in the Clutha/Mata-Au river

(d) To carry out the above purposes by any other means that the Trustees consider necessary and proper provided that the purposes of the Trust shall be conducted so as to remain charitable according to the laws of New Zealand

(e) For any other purpose that enhances habitats for Sports Fish more generally; and

(f) For any other purposes which are charitable according to the laws of New Zealand.
