Our Work
Enhancing Sports Fisheries Values and Habitats in the Lower Clutha / Mata-Au River
The Trust received its first funding allocation on 30 September 2024. Contract work on Trust projects started in April 2025.
As it moves forward, the Trust will engage with and consult Ngai Tahu, Contact Energy, Otago Fish and Game, Department of Conservation, Otago Regional Council and the wider community.
The Trust’s Business Plan will be reviewed annually to ensure it meets its goals and objectives as set out in the Trust Deed and Funding Agreement.
Did You Know?
The river's Māori name, Mata-Au, translates to "current in the water," and the area was historically inhabited by the Kāi Tahu people, who used the river as an important travel route to the lakes.
